Have you ever wanted to make something BIG happen in your life so badly, like work on your health, get your finances in order, or start a business, but no one around you could see your vision or worse, was actively dragging you down?
I believe this is one of the biggest traps of the mentally poor. When everyone around you has a scarcity mindset, they can act in ways (even if unknowingly) to try to keep you down too.
During pivotal periods of my life when I’ve tried to better myself, I have literally heard these words come out of people’s mouths (and yes, many years later, it still makes me sad that people not only thought but uttered these words to my face):
“Why would you want to do that?”
“So you think you’re so smart.”
“That’s nice. When are you going to have a baby?”
And the worst one of all (once things start going well): “You’re so LUCKY.”
If you are in this toxic situation, I’ve been there and feel SO HARD for you.
So what can you do?
- Keep your dreams, goals, and vision to yourself (at least for now). Don’t let haters stomp out your precious dreams before you’ve even had a chance to explore them.
- Don’t try to convince people who don’t get it. Find like-minded people to surround yourself with. If there is no one in your immediate circle, you can pay to join groups of like-minded people.
- Just DO and prove to YOURSELF that you CAN do it. Eventually, the people around you will see the fruits of your labor, and you won’t have to say a damn thing (and know they may later tell you that ‘You’re so lucky').
The words, thoughts, and ideas we repeat in our minds, let alone utter out loud, can become self-fulfilling prophecies. - Veronica Deraleau
