I was recently a guest on my first podcast (how exciting!), and the host said something in a way that caught my attention.

She said that I wasn’t special (she didn’t mean anything bad by it) and wanted me to share with others how I’ve balanced corporate and creative careers over the years.

This made me chuckle because years ago, my mother reminded me that I wasn’t special when I was having trouble moving on from a job that wasn’t serving me (she also didn’t mean anything bad by it, but it still stuck with me).

My awareness that I am average has been something that has served me and motivated me over the years. I do my very best to be super prepared in any context, whether that be a meeting or a performance.

In opera, they say that you are only as good as your average day, that your best days of singing will be few and far between, and they will likely happen in the confines of a practice room. Sure, people start with some level of God-given talents, but natural talent can only take you so far.

Knowing that I am not special has been a source of my positivity, believe it or not.

Whenever I see others performing at a level that I aspire to in my career or business, my default thought is not that they are somehow special.

My default thought is that they have done the work, put in the hours and reps, tested, failed, tweaked their strategy, and finally succeeded after many tries. Or that they were connected with or hired someone who had previously put in the reps to know what worked and what didn’t, and showed them the way.

Which is EXCELLENT news for me. If someone else has done it, that means certainly it is possible for me too!

When it comes to cleaning up finances, I am no special snowflake, but I have done the work, put in the reps, and finally have something to show for it. And I’m so pumped to help show others the way.

If you’ve worked too hard to have nothing to show for it and would like to partner to drastically change your finances in 2025, I’d love to connect. Get started with a free budget review at MakingMoneyIsSimple.com.
